Synopsis
Three years after the events of Life Is Strange Season 1, in Seattle, Washington, 16-year-old Sean Diaz returns home to get supplies for a party. Sean witnesses his 9-year-old brother Daniel being harassed by their neighbour Brett Foster and intervenes, accidentally injuring Foster as a police officer passes by. The officer assumes the worst and draws his gun on the brothers. Sean and Daniel's father Esteban tries to calm the situation, but in the confusion is shot and killed as a sudden supernatural explosion kills the officer and destroys the street. In panic, Sean flees with Daniel as more police arrive. Now fugitives, Sean leads Daniel out of Washington towards Puerto Lobos in Mexico, their father's hometown.[7] Daniel has no recollection of the events, and Sean hides the truth from him.
After spending a night camped in the woods, the brothers arrive at a roadside convenience store where they are recognised by the store owner, who kidnaps Sean as Daniel hides. Daniel later helps him to escape, and they flee the scene with the help of travel blogger Brody Holloway. Daniel steals a puppy from the store and the brothers name her Mushroom. Brody parts ways at a motel a few miles from Arcadia Bay, leaving them with supplies for the rest of their journey. Daniel learns of their father's death on the news and has a meltdown that destroys their room, revealing he has latent telekinesis and was inadvertently responsible for the earlier explosion.
A month later, in December of 2016, continuing south, Sean helps Daniel control his power. When Daniel falls ill, Sean changes course to their grandparent's house in Beaver Creek, Oregon, but before they leave Mushroom is killed by a cougar, leaving Daniel devastated and enraged, potentially killing the animal with his powers. The brothers reunite with their maternal grandparents Claire and Stephen Reynolds, who allow them to stay indefinitely. When Daniel shows interest in learning about his mother Karen, who abandoned her family shortly after Daniel's birth, Claire rebuffs the attempts and keeps Karen's room locked.
One day, Daniel witnesses the Reynolds' neighbour Chris Eriksen fall from his treehouse and instinctively uses his power to save him. Chris begins to believe he has superpowers as he and Daniel become friends. Sean and Daniel also meet freighthoppers Cassidy and Finn at a Christmas market. The brothers later break into Karen's bedroom and discover a recent letter from Karen expressing a desire to meet her children, leading to an argument with Claire and Stephen. When Stephen becomes trapped under a fallen cabinet, the family work together to free him just as police arrive in search of Sean and Daniel. Claire distracts the police so the brothers can escape via the Eriksen's backyard, with Chris either helping them to escape unnoticed, or potentially injured in the ensuing police pursuit. Sean and Daniel use a passing train to continue south.
